Warm up the whole family's morning with this comforting breakfast packed with healthy apples and flavour! It's gluten free, vegan and you can jazz it up with everyone's favourite toppings, including crunchy Scrapples apple crisps!
Serves 2 and take 15 min to make
Ingredients
- 1 large apple peeled, cored and chopped
- 75 g porridge oats or oat flakes
- 50 g sultanas - omit for a young baby
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 500 ml milk/dairy free milk
Topping ideas
- Pecans or other chopped nuts or seeds
- Fresh fruit or compote
- Scrapples apple crisps
- Nut butters or maple syrup
-
Place your chopped apple into a medium-sized saucepan. If you want your apple to be extra soft (for example if feeding to a young baby) add a splash of water and cook with the lid on for 5 minutes until starting to soften.
-
Add 75g porridge oats, 50g sultanas (if using) and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon to the pan. Stir.
-
Pour over 500ml milk. Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally, then reduce the heat and cover with a lid. Simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring often until the apple is soft and the porridge is creamy.
-
If you want your apple to break down completely you can mash it gently with the back of a wooden spoon or a fork before serving.
-
Allow to cool a little if serving to a baby or child.
-
Serve with your choice of toppings such as chopped nuts, seeds or fruit and some maple syrup or nut butter if wanted.
