Easy Salt Dough Christmas Tree Decs

Why not make your own Christmas Tree decorations this year, using our very easy Salt Dough recipe. This is such a pear-fect project for a chilly day and much more sustainable than most decorations you can buy. Keep them for your own tree, or they make lovely gifts, an alternative Secret Santa present maybe?

Ingredients

  • 250g plain flour

  • 125g table salt

  • 125ml water

(You can also use a cup or mug for the ratio – one whole cup of flour to half of salt and water.)

Method

  1. Line a baking tray with baking paper and preheat the oven to 80 degrees (fan).

  2. Place the flour and salt in a large bowl, mix and add the water. Stir with a fork until it comes together, then use your hands to make a ball.

  3. Lightly flour a work surface and roll out your ball of dough. Use cutters to make shapes and place on the baking tray.

  4. Use a straw to make a small hole for ribbon in each of the shapes.

  5. Bake for around 3 hrs, until they have dried out and are solid.

  6. Leave to cool and then paint (any kids paint is fine).

  7. Cut 15 cm lengths of ribbon, thread through the hole and tie the ends together.

  8. Hang on your tree!
